In the Battle of the Compact SUVs in Denton, TX, Subaru Forester Wins the Day Against Honda CR-V

Numbers have been crunched and the stats are in. What took the latest Subaru SUV in the decades-celebrated Forester line the extra mile?

For one, it's a better performer for the Denton off-road, offering more horsepower and torque to make the grade. 2018 Forester offers a standard 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter flat-four SUBARU BOXER in lower trims that becomes a 250-horsepower, 2.0-liter workhorse with a step up to those higher, capable of 258 pound-feet of turning and pulling power. Higher 2018 CR-V trims level out with an engine capable of only 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet.

Secondly, the new Forester standardized a fully synchronized six-speed manual transmission for that hands-on feel SUV enthusiasts crave. You can even upgrade to an optional Lineartronic® CVT, should you prefer ease of use. Its Honda sibling offers only a two-speed CVT.

But the crown of the new Subaru Forester line is perhaps standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, delivering on the promise of a balanced, energetic, and gripping ride that makes a Subaru, a Subaru. Honda CR-V might offer Real Time AWD with an Intelligent Control System, but it's only optional, base to Touring trim.

There are just a few of the standouts, too. Further, you'll find in 2018 Subaru Forester a choice of three STARLINK Multimedia infotainment systems for access to and control of myriad apps and functions within reach. That includes a system with the option of built-in navigation. At higher trims, there's a unique suite of EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, showcasing Adaptive Cruise Control to safely distance from others on the road, Lane Departure and Sway Warning and Lane Keep Assist for course correctional help, and a Pre-Collision Braking System to help prevent an accident. Plus, ample cargo space is the order of the day-trip - 68.5 to 74.7 cubic feet depending on trim with 60/40-split flat-folding rear seatbacks collapsed – and accessing it is a snap via an available power rear gate whose height you can conveniently adjust.

Of course, there's plenty of other features to love in the 2018 Subaru Forester, both to breeze past the new Honda CR-V and in their own right. Take a drive by Huffines Subaru, and we'll introduce you!
