Subaru Legacy a Hit with KBB, Excels Toyota Camry in Key Areas

The auto research and value experts call the new Legacy a "smart choice" among mid-size cars in the option-abundant sedan market, and pitted against segment mainstays like Toyota Camry, it's easy to see why and how.

No matter the trim level for which one frames the question, the excellence of Subaru Legacy is in the details. But take Legacy 2.5i, for example, versus the new Toyota Camry L base trim. Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive surely stands out as a hallmark of the elements of what Kelley Blue Book calls an "excellent reputation for efficiency, safety, reliability." AWD isn't available for the new Camry. Plus, you'll find the new Subaru Legacy a little more maneuverable than its sibling, with a curb-to-curb turning circle of a short 36.8 feet to Camry at 37.4. But when it all comes down to it, a new Legacy from Subaru is more cost-effective to boot, that is, for the significant feature showcase that comes standard. Base and comparably equipped MSRPs of around $22,195 and $23,055 respectively clearly pull ahead of the new Toyota sedan, at $23,495 and $24,390, and Legacy brings with it quite a few perks.

Among them, new for 2018, you'll find Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard for smartphone accommodation – features which aren't offered in Camry. There's plenty more room for a road trip's worth of passengers, too. 104.6 cubic feet of space for your fellow riders edges Legacy past Camry, which offers 100.4, and that means gains where it counts -- in front head, leg, and shoulder room and rear leg and shoulder room. Ditto for cargo. Legacy outpaces the new Camry 15.0 cubic feet to 14.1.

These are just the beginning of what you can expect from the technologically-adept Subaru Legacy. With the Subaru commitment to safety on display in standard Vehicle Dynamics and Traction Control systems, Active Torque Vectoring for a breezy drive around corners, and SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia touchscreen infotainment, it's plain to see the new mid-size sedan is a ride apart from the Toyota competition.
