The base model Forester features the same rugged design as every trim level. With over 8.7 inches of ground clearance, the Forester can handle harsh terrain better than other vehicles in its class. You get 17-inch steel wheels wrapped in all-season tires standard on the Forester, with an option for alloy in a silver finish. Other exterior features include LED Steering Responsive Headlights, folding side mirrors, and optional raised roof rails.

Subaru uses the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine in all Forester trims. Every variant also comes with Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive and Vehicle Dynamics Control systems. In addition, all trim levels come standard with Eyesight, a suite of driver-assist technologies designed to help you drive safer.

Inside the Forester, you get manually adjusting front seats and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat — all in premium cloth upholstery. The cargo area features grocery bag storage with tie-down hooks and an underneath storage compartment to hide items from prying eyes. The total cargo space behind the rear seat is 28.9 cubic feet though lowering the rear seat opens up 74.2 cubic feet of space cumulatively.

Your in-vehicle tech runs through the 6.5-inch multi-media display powered by Subaru's STARLINK system. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD radio with four speakers, and more come with STARLINK. Also, a 4.2-inch color LCD instrument cluster displays an analog speedometer and tachometer.

Other features include power windows and door locks, steering wheel-mounted controls, a multi-function center console, and dual USB ports. What's more, the automatic climate control system delivers CFC-free air conditioning with air filtration.

Subaru Forester Premium

The Forester Premium trim builds on the features of the base model, adding 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a black machine-faced finish. Additional exterior upgrades include fog lights, heated and folding outside mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Also, a panoramic power moonroof and raised roof rails come standard.

You'll enjoy keyless entry on the Forester Premium and push-button start once inside. Plus, you get heated, power-adjustable front seats and a reclining rear seatback. Further, the trim boasts a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Available amenities include a power rear liftgate and dual USB ports for rear passengers. The variant also has 4G LTE capability and uses an audio system that now features six speakers.

Compared to the base's, cargo volume dips slightly to 26.9 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 69.1 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. However, you have the option to add a removable cargo area tray.

Subaru Forester Sport

Subaru continues to add features as you move up the trim levels, such as 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a black finish on the Sport trim. Other exterior upgrades include LED fog lights, a single chrome exhaust outlet, and body-color folding side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators.

A few significant changes to the interior occur on the Sport trim, like premium sport cloth upholstery with orange stitching and a 6.3-inch color multi-function display, which tracks critical driving and systems data. Additionally, this trim includes Lineartronic CVT steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Cargo space remains the same as the Premium's. That said, you get a convenient cargo gate light and the removable cargo storage tray standard. And to elevate your driving experience, you can opt for the 8-inch Multimedia Plus system powered by STARLINK and the Harman Kardon nine-speaker premium audio system.

Subaru Forester Wilderness

This new trim slots in between the Sport and Limited trims. The Wilderness comes with stylish 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with a matte black finish, wrapped in rugged all-terrain tires. Also, it sports a full-size spare tire instead of the temporary tires on the lower trims. Finally, to help you conquer the wilderness, Subaru raised the ground clearance on the Forester Wilderness to 9.2 inches.

The automaker also adds hexagonal LED fog lights and hexagonal folding side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, with both features amplifying the off-road-inspired styling. An upgraded raised roof rail with integrated tie-down points and Anodized Copper-finish accents can support up to 220 pounds in dynamic weight capacity. On top of that, the raised roof rails can hold up to 800 pounds of static weight, making the Subaru's roof-mounted tent accessory a nice addition.

Inside, the climate control system improves to two zones, and the 8-inch Multimedia Plus system comes standard with an option to add navigation. Wilderness' upholstery moves to the durable and stylish StarTex water-repellent synthetic. You also get one-touch folding rear seatbacks.

Subaru Forester Limited

The top-of-the-line Limited trim features exterior upgrades like the 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels in black with a machine finish tucked in all-season tires. On the inside, it offers premium leather upholstery and an available heated steering wheel. A power rear gate with height memory and automatic close come standard.
