2024 Subaru EV Lineup

Fully electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular on the roads these days, and Subaru is getting in on the action with the Solterra. The Solterra is the only completely electric vehicle in Subaru’s lineup at this time, but don’t be surprised when you see more in the near future because the automaker plans to add three electric SUVs to its lineup. Here’s a look at the 2024 Subaru electric vehicle (EV) lineup and what’s coming in the next few years.

The Subaru Solterra

The Subaru Solterra is an impressive vehicle for Subaru’s first entry into the EV market. It has many of the features you expect with a Subaru, including standard all-wheel drive and some off-road capabilities.

Power

The Subaru Solterra is powered by two electric motors and a 72.8 kWh battery pack. These combine to generate 215 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque. There are four drive modes, including an X-mode designed to give you better traction on slippery roads and off-road terrain. With a full charge, this EV has a 228-mile range.

Interior Features

There’s room for five in the Solterra, and the base Premium trim has cloth upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The Limited adds simulated leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated rear seats, and the top-level Touring has a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting.

Technology Features

There’s plenty of tech to enjoy in this Subaru. The base trim is equipped with an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Subaru’s smartphone app, while the Limited and Touring boast a 12.3-inch touch screen, a Harmon Kardon stereo system, integrated navigation, and wireless charging.

Safety Systems

Every Subaru Solterra has a full suite of advanced driver aids. It comes with forward collision warning, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist. An emergency steering assist system and front cross-traffic alert are also standard features. Stepping up to the Limited gets you a 360-degree surround-view camera and a semi-automatic parking system that will assist with steering and braking in tight parking spots. The Touring also adds a digital rearview camera.

Future Subaru EVs

While the Solterra is the only EV currently in the Subaru lineup, three new electric SUVs will join the Solterra by 2026. Subaru’s goal is to sell 200,000 EVs in 2026, and by 2028, it plans to build 400,000 EVs a year.

Subaru’s director and executive vice president briefed reporters on the company’s plan to produce more electric SUVs but didn’t give any specifics about the vehicles and promised to provide more information at a later date.

What he did reveal is that future SUVs will use batteries from its partnership with Toyota. The Solterra is built on the same platform as Toyota’s all-electric bZ4X at its Motomachi plant, and it sounds like Subaru will keep this partnership with Toyota going in the future as both companies expand their all-electric lineups.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

For drivers who want the benefits of an alternative fuel SUV, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is the answer. This SUV is more capable of tackling rough terrain than most other compact SUVs, and the hybrid powertrain makes it more fuel-efficient.

Power

The standard powertrain for the Subaru Crosstrek is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 152 horsepower or a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 182 horsepower. For the 2024 model year, the Crosstrek Hybrid uses StarDrive technology and has a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It’s expected to have a 2.0-liter hybrid engine with 146 horsepower and an electric motor with up to 17 miles of all-electric range. The Crosstrek Hybrid will automatically use the electric motor for as long as possible before employing the gas engine. This will help you save fuel and allow you to get up to 480 miles of total range.

Charging

The Crosstrek Hybrid will automatically charge the battery as you drive. When it gets low, the gas engine kicks in, and it’ll start to recharge. The Battery Charge mode will direct the engine to charge the battery even if the vehicle is stationary. This will allow you to regain up to 33% of the battery’s charge in just half an hour. When you’re at home, you can charge the battery using a standard outlet. It takes just five hours to completely recharge the battery using a 120-volt outlet and just two hours with Level 2 charging.

Interior and Exterior Features

Just like the gas-powered Crosstrek, the hybrid has LED headlights and the option for LED fog lights. The standard alloy wheels and bold front grille make a statement, while the sleek silhouette and streamlined roofline make it more aerodynamic.

Inside, you’ll find a spacious cabin with room for five. The rear seat has a 60/40 split, providing the flexibility you want whether you’re carrying passengers, cargo, or a combination of both. Technology features include Subaru’s multimedia system, a touch-screen display, and the option for integrated navigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make it easy to integrate your phone, and the available wireless charging means you can always have a full charge.

Driver-Assist Features

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has all the safety systems you need to feel confident on and off the road. The suite of safety systems includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. A rear-seat reminder is another standard safety feature. It alerts the driver to check the back seat before they walk away from the vehicle so they don’t leave children or pets behind.
