2024 Subaru WRX: Engine, Interior, Colors, Price

It’s been more than 30 years since Subaru introduced the first WRX to the world. The brand manufactured it for the World Rally Championship in 1992 and based it on the Subaru Impreza that first made an appearance around the same time. Since then, the WRX and the Impreza have slowly grown apart, with the Impreza enjoying more mainstream success.

But Subaru continues to churn out new WRX models and just redesigned it for the 2022 model year. So what will the 2024 WRX offer when Subaru releases it later this year? Keep reading as our team at Huffines Subaru in Corinth, Texas, shares what we know so far.

Exterior Styling

As we just mentioned, Subaru redesigned the WRX a couple of years ago. So we don’t expect the brand to incorporate any major changes into the 2024 Subaru WRX’s exterior design. It’ll have the same sporty look as the 2023 Subaru WRX for the most part. Once upon a time, Subaru routinely released hatchback versions of the WRX. But just like in 2023, the WRX will likely only be available as a four-door sedan.

Available Colors

Although Subaru hasn’t announced which colors the latest WRX will be available in, the automaker has revealed that other 2024 models, such as the Crosstrek, will come in colors that include Pure Red, Crystal Black, Crystal White, Magnetite Grey, Ice Silver Metallic, and Horizon Blue Pearl. It wouldn’t be a shock to see the 2024 WRX available in at least a few of these colors from the start. But Subaru might also have a few other tricks up its sleeves when it comes to the colors available for the 2024 WRX to help set it apart from other Subaru models.

Engine Options

Over the years, the engines tucked underneath the hoods of Subaru WRXs have been more powerful than those found in most other Subaru models. That should once again be the case for the 2024 Subaru WRX. Just like the 2023 model, we expect it to come with a standard turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four-cylinder engine that’s capable of producing up to 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It’ll help make the WRX one of the fastest models in the Subaru lineup.

It’s worth noting that the 2024 Subaru WRX should once again share some similarities with other Subaru models. For example, we expect it to have all-wheel drive, which has become a staple in most Subaru models at this point. People are also anticipating that it’ll have a six-speed manual transmission with an optional continuously variable automatic transmission. If you’ve got a need for speed, the manual transmission might be a better fit for you thanks to the improved performance it’ll provide. And if it has the current model’s dual-pinion electric power steering, you’ll still enjoy its quick response and handling.

Interior Design

Most Subaru models have interiors that focus on function over fashion. But the WRX has traditionally been the exception to this rule. Subaru often tries to cater to the performance crowd with the WRX’s interior by adding stylish touches to it. We would guess the 2024 Subaru WRX will feature more of the same. It’ll likely have the same microsuede seats that are in the 2023 WRX, along with red contrast stitching and accents that look just like carbon fiber. All of this will give the WRX a different look and feel than other Subarus.

User-Friendly Technology

We expect most 2024 Subaru WRX trims to have standard 7-inch touch screen infotainment displays. But you should still have the option to upgrade to a much larger 11.6-inch touch screen if you’d like. The touch screen will be vertically oriented, which can take some time to get used to, but once you’re familiar with it, it’ll be straightforward and effortless to use. There are also other high-end technological features you can pick out for the 2024 WRX, such as an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system that’ll add extra bass to your music while you cruise around Corinth.

Safety Features

One interesting thing about the 2023 Subaru WRX was that it didn’t include many standard safety features in models with a manual transmission. Subaru only fitted those with an automatic transmission with all the safety features people have come to know and love in its vehicles. Subaru will probably take this same approach with the 2024 WRX. Some of the safety features you’ll be able to find in a 2024 WRX will be forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and possibly even adaptive cruise control.

Predicted Price

Subaru has kept the starting price of the 2024 WRX close to the vest so far. But the 2023 model starts at around $30,605, so it’ll likely land somewhere in that ballpark. But since Subaru has already revealed that some other models, such as the 2024 Impreza, will see their prices increase, the 2024 Subaru WRX may follow suit and cost slightly more than the 2023 model.

Expected Availability

Like with most other details surrounding the 2024 WRX, Subaru has remained tight-lipped regarding the release date. But it would make a lot of sense for the 2024 Subaru WRX to start to hit dealer lots sometime in the fall of 2023. That would likely leave enough breathing room between the 2023 and 2024 models.
