What To Expect From 2024 Subaru Solterra
The automotive market has mostly been dominated by SUVs and electric vehicles over the past decade, so it only makes sense that manufacturers would compete to build the ultimate electric SUV. The Solterra is Subaru’s first attempt at building an electric vehicle. Given the Japanese manufacturer’s reputation for building quality vehicles, it was expected to be an instant success. Given its reviews and customer feedback, it’s safe to say that Subaru got it right the first time.
What’s New for the 2024 Version?
Subaru launched the Solterra’s first generation with its 2023 model. Although no official information is out yet regarding the 2024 one, it probably won’t feature too many changes, if any. Given the relatively low supply for 2023 Solterras, many potential customers who haven’t yet received theirs are expecting more of the same regarding the 2024 model. However, because of the 2023 model’s many features and impressive build quality, no major changes are needed.
Excellent Range and Power

Whenever an all-electric vehicle is discussed, one of the first questions that comes to people’s minds is how far they can take it on a single charge. The 2023 version of the Solterra had a range of 228 miles, which is more than adequate for a vehicle its size. We expect the 2024 version to have at least a similar range. The electric powertrain is also reasonably powerful, with the two electric motors producing a total of 215 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque and powered by a 72.8 kWh battery pack.
Well-Equipped Trims
The 2024 Subaru Solterra comes in three distinct trim levels: Premium, Limited, and Touring. The basic trim has an impressive list of standard features, with the other two adding new ones and enhancing some existing ones.
Premium Trim
Although this is the 2024 Subaru Solterra’s base version, it’s packed with features that many other vehicles only include in their higher trims. These include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, roof rails, a windshield wiper de-icer, dual-zone automatic climate control, as well as heated front seats and steering wheel. It also includes modern tech features, such as an 8-inch touch-screen interface, smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a dedicated smartphone app that controls and monitors the Solterra. The charging port allows DC fast charging of up to 100 kW.
Limited Trim
The middle trim adds to the Solterra’s comfort and technology. It includes larger 20-inch wheels, LED fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, a power liftgate, and power-folding mirrors, among others. The touch-screen interface is 12.3 inches wide and features an integrated navigation system, while the audio system is upgraded to a premium Harman Kardon.
Touring Trim
The top Subaru Solterra trim includes all features from the previous two while adding some of its own. Its interior receives a significant upgrade in looks and functionality, with a spectacular panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and interior ambient lighting. Another major addition is a digital rearview mirror that helps the driver see what’s happening behind the Solterra, even when the cargo area is fully loaded.
Great Looking and Useful All Around
As you would expect from a quality SUV, the 2024 Subaru Solterra not only looks impressive but is also highly useful. On the exterior, it stands out due to its sporty design, especially with the 20-inch wheels that come standard with the Limited trim. Solterra’s interior uses quality materials, and its design is a mix of classic and futuristic. It’s also comfortable even on long drives due to its smooth suspension system and effective noise insulation. Its cargo space is also impressive for its size, with 29 cubic feet of space behind the two rows of seats.
Impressive Active and Passive Safety
Modern vehicles aren’t only expected to keep everyone as safe as possible in case of a collision but also to have multiple systems that help the driver avoid it in the first place. The 2024 Subaru Solterra scores high marks in both active and passive safety, making it an ideal family vehicle. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2023 model maximum safety ratings, and the 2024 will most likely follow because there are no expected major changes.
Some of the advanced driver aids available for the 2024 Subaru Solterra are:
- Forward collision mitigation system: Warns the driver in case of an impending frontal collision and automatically brakes to avoid it.
- Blind-spot monitoring system: Issues a visual alert if another vehicle enters the Solterra driver’s blind spot.
- Lane-keeping assist system: Constantly monitors the vehicle’s lane position and makes small adjustments to keep it centered in its lane.
- Adaptive cruise control: Keeps the Solterra at a constant speed on long drives and adjusts this speed to keep a safe distance between the vehicle and the one in front.
- Front cross-traffic alert system: Monitors oncoming traffic from both sides at an intersection and alerts the driver of any potential collision with cars coming from either side.
- Rear cross-traffic alert system: Monitors oncoming traffic from both sides while backing up and alerts the driver if another vehicle is about to cross.
- Surround-view camera system: Gives the driver a top-down view of the Solterra and everything around it, which can be useful when trying to park in narrow spots.
- Semi-automated parking system: Helps the driver park the Solterra quickly and easily by using the car’s sensors to analyze the available space and then guide the driver into parking the car in that space.
